Nutrition Fall Update -- November 17 & 18, 2009

     This event is held during the month of November.  It is held in a hotel in downtown Ithaca or on the Cornell University campus.  This is a 1 ½ day event, requiring at least one overnight, beginning on the afternoon of day 1 and progressing to the afternoon of day 2.  The objectives of the training are dependent upon the focus of the topics addressed.

New Nutrition Staff Training -- To Be Determined

     This event is held twice each year, Spring and Fall.  It is offered to all FNEC nutrition supervisor staff and regional coordinators.  The objectives of the training are:

  • become acquainted with DNS faculty and staff
  • learn about program history, guidelines, and criteria for evaluation
  • use program data and information to make program decisions
 

Nutrition Spring Update -- May 18 - 20, 2010

     This event is held at varying locations across the State.  The date and location is dependent upon availability and region taking the lead in event planning.  This is a two-day event, requiring at least two overnights, beginning on the afternoon of day 1 and progresses to the afternoon of day 3.  The objectives of the training are dependent upon the focus of the trainings offered.

   

Taking the Helm for Navigating for Success-- To Be Determined

     This training prepares facilitators to deliver the Navigating for Success (NFS) initial frontline staff training.  The training provides facilitators with the background into the dialogue-based, learner centered approach to adult education and allows the facilitator to practice the skills that make the design most effective.  The objectives of the training are:

  • Assessed a facilitation design (4A) that incorporates facilitating adult learner principles
  • Appreciated why learner-centered facilitating is more effective than teacher-centered
  • Explored adult learning principles
  • Recognized differences in learning styles and how incorporating all learning styles can maximize group learning
  • Reviewed the VOICE principles and how they are used in groups
  • Examined the Seven Key Facilitation Skills and how they incorporate what we know about adults
  • Created a physical environment that is conducive to learning
  • Gone over 4A design more in depth
  • Practiced the planning and facilitating processes
 

Reaching Not Just Teaching -- To Be Determined

     This program adapts the best practices learned in NFS and taught to facilitators through Taking the Helm, into program areas outside of nutrition.  This train-the-trainer builds the knowledge and skills of facilitation staff to incorporate the adult learning principals into their program delivery.  The objectives of this training are:

  • Assessed a facilitation design (4A) that incorporates facilitating adult learner principles

  • Explored adult learning principles

CRS5 - Finding and Fixing Errors -- April 2010

     This training is designed to explore the tools available to the county, analyze the general feedback provide to counties from the CRS5 reviews conducted quarterly, and make corrections to the county specific data using the feedback provided.

3-Pass System Diet Recall Training -- Offered Regionally

     This training introduces frontline staff to the method by which 24-hour recall data is to be collected in group settings. Frontline staff become familiar with and develop a lesson plan in which the collection of the data becomes an integral part.
