Introduction Food and Nutrition Education in Communities (FNEC) Lesson Plans were developed by staff of Cornell Cooperative Extension of New York State in order to integrate up-to-date nutrition information with a dynamic teaching style that incorporates principles of adult learning. Cornell Cooperative Extension's FNEC programs recognize the excellent and varied resources for nutrition lesson planning that are currently on the market. The purpose of FNEC Lesson Plans is to fill a niche identified by FNEC program staff for lesson plans on a few key topics that would provide new and current staff with not only up-to-date nutrition information, but also guidance for teaching the subjects in a manner consistent with a teaching style embraced by FNEC programs. This teaching style combines a safe, respectful, engaging environment with practical application. It encourages program participants to become involved in their own learning, while applying the nutrition information in immediate and practical ways to their personal lives. Outlined below are the topic areas for which lesson plans have been developed.
